'No Nation Can Survive Without Farmers' Kwara From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Former Works and Housing Minister, Major General Abdulkarim Adisa (rtd) has said no nation can survive without farmers, as it is the only profession that does not require lies and deceit, "because farmers cannot plant cassava and reap maize." Speaking when he hosted a farmers group, All Nigeria Farmers Delegate Conference (ANFADEC), Adisa now a mechanized farmer noted that the essence of the group was to create structures for renewed efforts in farmers capacity building towards efficient production. The farmer minister, who is the group's convenor, pointed out that his primary occupation before farming was soldering, but that the best security any nation can afford its citizen was food security. The former military officer lamented the inability of successive government to support farmers, expressing dismay at the rate of disunity among farmers in the country pointing out that nothing could be achieved without unity, urging the farmers to embrace the spirit of teamwork and strive towards unity. The former military governor of the old Oyo State told his guests of his desire to set up "Farmer Support Programme." The programme, he explained, will coordinate all external and internal assistance to farmers, which would involve intellectual inputs and marketing. He added that the programme would ensure affordable farm inputs such as cutlass and chemicals for farmers and equally avail the farmer of marketing outlets for their farm produce.
