NGO Proposes Plan for Grassroots Devt Lagos By Idowu Sowunmi A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Human Support Services (HSS) yesterday proposed a comprehensive masterplan that will lead to grassroots development in areas of health, education, private sector and others. The masterplan was presented at the Ajegunle Community Stakeholders meeting, which took place at Ajeromi Local Government of Lagos State. According to all participants, sectoral approach toward the nation's well being should be explored by government at all levels for sustainable growth and development. The NGO supported by Westminister Foundation for Democracy, has been at the vanguard of promoting a system of good governance, transparency and accountability of elected officers through effective monitoring of such representatives. In his speech, Project Director of HSS, Mr. Emeka Nzofor, said "It is not enough to elect representatives to various levels of governance but they should be given a comprehensive framework for community development. Besides, elected representatives should implement priority policies for the development of the people". He added that government is not only about the provision of roads, water and electricity which are basic responsibilities of governance saying there should be a sustainable solution to cater for special needs of communities.
