Benue Gov's Aide Refutes Abduction of Journalist Benue Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State governor, Mr. Tahav Agerzua, has refuted media reports that The Tribune Correspondent in Benue State was abducted, brutalised, tortured and detained. Agerzua said contrary to reports, the correspondent, Mr. Johnson Babajide, is a free man who is in good health as can be attested to by his colleagues. The secretary said on Wednesday, July 21, he personally went to the house of the correspondent in the morning and invited him to the Government House to discuss a report published in The Sunday and Monday Tribune of July 18 and 19 that the Gboko residences of the governor and that of the Internal Affairs Minister, had been burnt. According to Agerzua, the correspondent willingly and voluntarily got into his official car in which he also personally drove him to the Government House. He said it was while waiting for some other officials who were to take part in the discussion that Babajide sneaked away and was later apprehended by the police. He maintained that when the police got him, he was driven to Gboko in company of senior police officers in a police vehicle and was shown the two houses of Governor George Akume and Dr. Iyorchia Ayu which are still standing with no signs of any attacks whatsoever.
