Kwara Poly ASUP Knows Fate Sept 30 Kwara From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Justice Joseph Fola Gbadeyan of an Ilorin High Court has reserved rulling till September 30 in the suit filed by the Academic Staff Union of Kwara State Polytechnics (ASUP) against management of the school. The body went to court following the sudden implementation of the white paper on recommendations of the Visitation Panel on salaries of staff and the set retirement age. At the continued hearing of the case last week, the two counsel made spirited efforts to influence judgement in favour of their clients. However, while adopting his written submission, counsel to ASUP, Abenniv Muhammad argued that ASUP has no obligation to be bounded by the agreement since such are not part of the contractual agreement which was a collective one involving federal and state governments. He pointed out that the lecturers were entitled to their retirement age of 65years and the approved scale of salaries of HATISS 12-15 and prayed the court to grant all their prayers. "Eighteen states sent representatives to the meeting so my lord, if Kwara State refused to attend the meeting and they adopted the resolution of the meeting, for them to say they are not party to it is too late". In adopting his different written submission, counsel to the governing council of the polytechnic, Kayode Olatoke insisted that the agreement on the retiring age and salaries was a collective one which is binding on the lecturers. He prayed the court to dismiss the suit of the lecturers and uphold the prayers of the management.
