ANLCA Applauds Customs Reforms Rivers From Donald Andoor in Port Harcourt Nigerian Association of Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA) at Onne Port in Port Harcourt, has applauded the reforms sweeping through the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) saying they have already started yielding positive impact at the ports accross the country. The association reforms have restored sanity as officers of the customs are now more focused and alive to their responsibilities while clearing agents and importers have started operating in strict conformity to the laid down rules and regulations. Public Relations Officer of the chapter, Prince Solomon Nnanocha in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt praised the new customs helmsman and the Joint Presidential Task Force for checking and reducing activities of touts at the nation's ports which had hitherto made the clearing of goods difficult. Nnanocha however advised government to ensure that reforms were total and should be extended to renovation of physical structures like barracks for the personnel. In addition, he urged government to ensure proper motivation of customs personnel through adequate renumeration to prevent them being vulnerable to currupt overtures from members of the public. "The customs personnel need to be adequately provided with motivational incentives like good accommodation, condusive office envoronment and adequate renumeration. You can't send somebody who is not sure of his daily bread or roof over his head to collect millions of naira for you, you are endangering those millions" he stressed. He commended government for granting the request for extension of time for the clearance of Non-CRI goods and appealed to importers and agents to take advantage of the governmemt gesture to clear their goods.
