Lawmaker Renews Call for Rotational Presidency
Bayelsa
From John Iwori in Yenagoa

Chief Whip of Bayelsa State House of Assembly representing Ogbia Constituency II, Hon. Robert Enogha, has renewed the call for the rotational Presidency with each of the six geo-political zones taking a shot at interval.

Enogha who made the call in Yenagoa, emphasised the need for Nigerians to reason with South-south geo-political zone to actualize the dream of producing the president in 2007.

According to the lawmaker, the zone will not accept anything less than the position of the president come 2007 in the zoning.

The Chief Whip maintained that gone were the days when the position was restricted to the North and the South alone. He reiterated that this is the ideal period Nigerians should cooperate and support the South-south geo-political zone to clinch the number one slot.

The lawmaker asserted that the zone has been able to accommodate what he described as its explorers and exploiters and would do better to promote national unity and good governance that will give a sense of belonging to the different ethnic groups of the country.

He observed that youth restiveness in the zone had also been reduced to the barest minimum in preparation for the presidency.

The legislator advised politicians especially the ones in Bayelsa State to close rank, instead of exhibiting divisive tendency rancour and acrimony. According to him, politicians should embrace attributes that would ensure the sustainable development of the state.

"As members of one family what we should do is to give thanks to God for creating the enabling environment for democracy to prevail in the country. Let there be unity so that the dividends of democracy would not elude us," he said.

Enogha also urged those he called "rumour mongers and detractors of progress" to desist from acts that could distract the genuine intentions of the government to put the state on the fast track of sustainable development.

According to him, all hands must be on deck to promote peace and unity in the state because as he put it: "peace is the pre-requisite for any meaningful development of any society."
