Govt Provides 60 Boreholes Gombe From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe No fewer than 60 boreholes have been sunk by the Gombe State government through direct labour within one year. The state Commis-sioner for Water Resources and Environment, Mr David Alba-shir, who disclosed this in an interview with THISDAY said the 60 were out of the 100 promised by the state governor, Alhaji Danjuma Goje, after being sworn in as the chief executive of the state. According to him, 11 boreholes were sunk in Gombe, 10 at Billiri and eight at Kaltungo. Said Albashir "we have sunk boreholes in most of the local government councils except where water level is above 200 metres." He believed that the government would sink more than 100 boreholes in the next few months, adding that the drilling machine is functioning properly. The commissioner said the Goje administration was determined to solve the perennial water problem bedeviling the state for decades. Albashir said the 27 state water relief tankers distributed to all the 11 local councils had proved that the state government is serious to tackle the water scarcity. He reiterated that government water tankers are still selling at N30 per drum instead of N60, to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
