Defaulting Contractors: Lawmaker Takes Case to Village Head Delta From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Member representing Oshi-mili South Federal constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Mrs) Monu Olanrewaju, has vowed to employ 'traditional mechanism' in compelling contractors who abandoned their projects in the council area to work. The traditional mechanism according to her, was reporting the erring contractors to the village and clan head, as well as the age groups, who would in turn ensure that such contractors go back to work. "Some of them are our sons, so we have to approach them through the traditional mechanism. We have the Ochoko traditional age group, and others, we can use our traditional mechanism to get them back to work" Olanrewaju submitted. Briefing newsmen in Asaba, the law maker lamented the poor road network in the state capital, adding that the roads are bad because they had been abandoned by contractors handling them. Besides, she disclosed that she had already reported the matter to house committee on works, as well as Governor James Ibori. That she was of the belief that the issues raised would soon be addressed. Olanrewaju stressed that she would give the house and the state government some time to redress the situation, and if that fails, she would have no option than to employ the traditional mechanism in compelling the erring contractors back to work.
