Educationist Advocates B.Tech Degree for Polytechnics Lagos By Deji Akinbode The Federal Government has been advised to close the gap between Bachelor of Science (Bsc) degree holders and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders in the country's educational system. Speaking at the launching of N48million Ultra modern workshop of the Universal College of Technology, Ile-Ife, Osun State, the institution's Chief Executive, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, said the Federal Government should share the blame for the disparity between Bsc and HND holders. He said as a matter of urgency, government should change all HND to B.Tech, equivalent to Bsc. According to him, there is nothing like HND in all American system of education, this has been replaced by Bachelor of Technical Degrees (B.Tech) to serve and develop their middle level manpower needed to uplift their system of education. "The B.Tech. graduands can still serve our middle level manpower, since polytechnics will not offer masters and Phd programmes." Receiving members of Natio-nal Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in his office during an inspection tour of the institution to inspect and accredit some courses Adedoyin said he hoped the Federal Government would accede to his request. The NBTE members praised the concerted efforts of the chairman for the completion of the new buildings that would add to the glamour and educational standard of the institution.
