Agent Docked over Theft of N36m lagos By Abimbola Akosile A Lagos-based clearing and forwarding agent, Mr. Raphael Okonkwo, has been dragged before a Lagos Magistrate's Court for allegedly stealing a forty-feet container containing 655 cartons of Topgel MCA products, valued at about N36million, property of Trans-pharm Industries, importers and dealers in photo materials in Aroloya, Lagos. Okonkwo, brought before Magistrate A. O. Isaacs, of the Igbosere Magistrate Court by police prosecutor, Eluwa, is facing a three-count charge of allegedly conspiring with others now at large, to commit felony to wit, stealing sometime in April 2003, contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code. He was accused of stealing the above-mentioned forty-footer container, belonging to, Trans-pharm, with one Mr Raphael Obi, the managing director of the firm; and that he also, with intent to intimidate, annoy, and alarm Obi, engaged the services of certain armed hoodlums to monitor the complainant's movement from his house in order to harm him, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Sections 390(4)(c) and 86 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 1994. Okonkwo, who was earlier remanded and bailed from the Ikoyi prisons by his lawyer, had according to sources, claimed he seized the goods from one Nicholas Nwumeri, Obi's business partner, due to a breach of contract between both of them; despite having collected varying sums of money from Obi for its clearing. The accused person, who first appeared in court on June 21, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties verified by court.
