Youth Threaten to Recall Lawmaker
Abia
From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia
Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) Abia State Chapter, has threatened to set a motion in place at the National Assembly to recall the member representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr Chinon-yerem Macebuh, if he does not desist from subverting activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Acting Chairman of NDYM, Mr Anochie Nwogbo, at a press briefing in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government area of the state alleged that Macebuh instigated some indigenes of the area to write an unsubstantiated petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) against the leadership of NDDC, with the intention of discrediting and maligning them.
Nwogbo said despite the commission's commitment to the effective development of the state, Macebuh had had to hoodwink one Morgan Nwulu and Menaseh Nwoleki, both indigenes of Ukwa, to petition the ICPC, alleging that the leadership of NDDC, especially commissioner representing Abia State, Chief Okey Nwaubani, had awarded contracts without recourse to statutory provisions, due process and financial regulations.
He also wondered why the petitioners had copied only Macebuh, side-tracking the state Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, as well as the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara and warned Macebuh to desist from his antics as he could not claim to know what was happening in the state more than the people."
According to the youth leader, "Macebuh has no constituency office here. No indigene of Ukwa is his Personal Assistant. And his constituency is in the air. Last December, we had to force him down here to give us the account of his stewardship, which he couldn't. And now, just three days after he came home and left for Abuja, the petition sprang up. I wonder why he has been maligning those who are really working. He has never shown any interest in the development of the area," he said.
He, therefore, urged the ICPC to disregard the petition, as it was borne out of self-interest, deceit and malice and advised the commission to instill a measure in its procedure to punish those who petitions it with wrong information to serve as deterrent to others.
Nwogbo warned the petitioners and their cohorts to mend their ways or face the wrath of the youth stressing that youth in Abia, especially in Ukwaland are solidly behind the NDDC leadership.
