Forum Alerts on Moves to Destabilise NDDC From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia The Asa Leadership Forum, a political think-tank of the Asa indegenes in Ukwa-West local govenment area of Abia State has raised alarm over alledged plans by some "faceless individuals" in the soicety to scuttle developmental plans in the area. According to its leadership, the plans are alledegly been hatched by a few indegenes of the area, and some other collaborators through the intiating of moves aimed at blackmailing the leadership of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to weaken its zeal to pursue even development of Asa, especially Owazza, which is the higest oil producing area of the state. President General of Asa leadership forum alleged that the group claimed that it was behind the petition of the Independent Corrupt practices Commission (ICPC) against the NDDC leadership, especially in the forwarding contracts without recourse to statory provisions, due process and financial regulations. Ogbonna expressed dismay that despite the various tangible developmental projects embarked upon by NDDC to impact positively on the lives of the poeple, some misinformed individuals from the area had colluded with outsiders to discredit and malign the commission for their own selfish interests. He said, those behind the petition were only embarking on the exercise because they were allegedly not favoured in the award of contracts by NDDC, adding that none of them were representing the people of Ukwa-land. According to him, "these people are not our representatives they represent themselves." Ogbonna said the people were satisfied with the performance of NDDC in the area, adding that besides roads and provision of electricity, the commission had also empowered the people through some of its development programme.
