'Gains of Window of Oppotunity'
By Tunmise Adekunle

As the Window of Opportunity opened by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria ends this week on July 31, outgoing APCON's registrar and chief executive, Dr. Josef Bel-Molokwu says the scheme will not only make for easy regulation of advertising in Nigeria, but will also create jobs in the industry.

While responding to questions from pressmen who called on him in his office recently, Dr. Bel-Molokwu explained that the two categories of people in advertising practice affected by the council's magnanimity, namely those in advertising practice with not less than 10 years of academic qualification well as foreigners, were being brought in to enrich the profession and make for better regulation of advertising in Nigeria.

He noted that after the Window of Opportunity registration exercise, the Council would no longer grant such an opportunity, but would fully enforce the profusions of the law regarding registration to practise advertising in Nigeria. Dr. Bel-Molokwu stated further that APCON has been reaching out to those who might benefit from this scheme through nationwide visitations of advertising organizations and massive publicity to drive home this point.

He added that with this absorption the individuals would benefit from the Council's educational and 'training opportunities which he said would enhance their appreciation .of advertising problems and make them able to perform advertising functions better and more professionally.

Window of Opportunity exercise which has been on for about two months is to absorb all those who had lacked the pre-requisite qualification for registration in the advertising profession. It affords those with 5 years of advertising experience but who earned their degrees or Higher National Diploma in fields other than Mass Communication, graphic arts, advertising and marketing to practice advertising without writing the APCON examinations
