John Holt Launches New Fire Fighting Product
By Sony Neme
A new dimension to fire fighting has been introduced into the market by John Holt Plc. The exercise, which took place recently at the premises of Apapa Local Government council, had the council boss, Alh. Muniru Muse, applauding the efficiency and proof of the on-wheel gadget.
His words: "I've seen the operations and I've seen the proof and I'm sure it would sail through because it's simple to operate." The double agents in the 16 horsepower Rosenbauer product with 130 litres capacity makes it imperative for it to switch from water to foam, depending on the nature of fire to be extinguished.
Earlier, the team comprising of Bill Laurie, Managing Director, John Coats and Divisional Chief Executive had paid a courtesy call on Alh. Muse.
In his speech, Mr. Martin Nwabuwa, General Manager, John Holt Plc, while unfolding the gadget to the public said the system is so versatile that even the regular security men could be trained to operate them. He said plans are on to manufacture most of its components locally to meet with demand.
Nwabuwa said, "The system is so worthwhile that even the regular security men could be trained to operate them. That is why it is a best bet for markets, schools and hospitals among other areas. It uses a minimum quantities of extinguishing agents, which are always available, and provides permanent and uninterrupted extinguishing capacity for increased self protection."
He described it as a complete, advance and rapid response lightweight extinguishing system for a faster combating of fire during its initial stage. "The beauty of it all is that apart from its affordable cost that is about 10 percent of the regular truck it's environmental friendly. What you have is fluro protein, it is not synthetic, which makes it to dissolve easily," he said.
For him fire service can be made more effective with the culture of neglect curtailed and rusty equipment refurbished. "Already the government is thinking on the right direction with the planned decentralisation policy which has worked well in advanced countries," he said adding, "It's a right step as fire occurs even at remote places. Another thing is awareness.
