FG threatens to revoke Imo Road contract By Uchenna Awom National Assembly Correspondent, Abuja The Federal Government has threatened to revoke the contract awarded to Monier Construction Company (MCC) for the construction of the Ihiala-Orlu-Nkwere-Anara road in Imo State. Minister of Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, made the threat during a meeting with the management of the company and leaders of thought from the state led by a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chidi Nwogu, in his Abuja office at the weekend. Nwogu, representing Nkwere, Orlu, Nwangele and Njaba Federal Constituency, had petitioned the minister to give strength to an earlier report by the Senate and House of Representatives committees on works complaining of the poor handling of the road project by MCC. Ogunlewe said 60 per cent of the contract cost of N700 million had been paid to the contractor, saying the only available option for the contractor is to complete the project on time or have the contract revoked. He wondered why the company would delay the work after collecting the huge sum. Nwogu had earlier expressed regrets over the delay in completing work on the road by the contractor after all the efforts put in by the Works Ministry to get the job done with on time.       Copyright� 2002.
