Macebuh criticises NDDC

By Uche Nwosu

Special Correspondent, Umuahia

After a careful appraisal for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chinonyerem Macebuh, said it has performed below expectations since its inception.

Macebuh’s views about the commission is not in tandem with those of some of his kin men and constituents who have threatened to recall him from that National Assembly if he continues to portray NDDC in bad light henceforth.

He said corruption and fraud in witnessed in NDDC since it was established is unprecedented and shocking.

“NDDC, to the best of my knowledge, is about the most corrupt federal agency that I know. It is terrible. I feel particularly ashamed that somebody like Onyema Ugochukeru is the chairman yet this is happening,” Macebuh said.

But some members of his constituent from Owaza in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State under the umbrella of Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) expressed surprise that despite NDDC’s commitment to develop the oil producing areas in the state, Macebuh has persistently cast aspersions on the commission.

The acting chairman of the movement, Mr. Anochi Nwogbo, told journalists in Obehie at the weekend that Macebuh’s cronies in the area had written frivolous petitions against the commission and its Abia representative, Chief Okey Nwaubaui to the Independent Corruption Practice and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alleging that the leadership of NDDC, especially the Commissioner and Abia representative at the commission had awarded contracts without recourse to statutory provisions and financial regulations.

He, therefore, appealed to the ICPC to disregard the petitions as it was borne out of self-interest, deceit and malice against the public officers concerned.
