Robbers, politicians and the girls

By Eferovo Igho

It has been said generally that the bad girls, be they in brothels, wayward homes, matrimony, ivory towers, corporate world or what have you, represent a major reason the underworld boys go robbing and even taking up arms to eliminate human lives. It has also been said, in low tones though, that mostly for the same reason your politicians go "banditting", burrowing head, shoulder and heart into our treasuries with obstacle and resistance, real or perceived, meeting with assassination. Elimination of human lives! No difference! Same drive, push and goal! Same means - even the worst of it whenever they imagine it necessary - to achieve their goals! And in the end they share these girls together, though in turns. No difference!

From the brothels, the ivory towers and corporate world, whoredom it is. Apart from being agents of Satan, it is money these bad girls are looking for. Whosoever is actually an agent of Satan that supplies this money does not matter! And so, in the morning it is "Dr Oyenusi"; in the evening '`Honourable Senator Excellency". It is all immorality and giving and taking of currency notes. T he robbers and robber politicians are the same. They with their female friends are in the same social class, mental class and degree of sensuality. Birds of a feather that is! Between the robbers and robber politicians, the latter (supposed carriers of our national conscience) hit us with more awe; and apart from being more wary of them, they should engage more, and indeed, the rest of our attention.

Recently, this writer drew the nation's attention to how many politicians evade Enugu town on weekends for immoral act with loose and spoilt girls, prostitutes masquerading as acada girls. Enugu is not alone of course. Our leaders can use your money to wreck marriages and take the sweet and shine off future marriages. Their ill-gotten wealth "runs into their heads" and empties them of restraint and discipline as they go wrecking, as it were, the original purpose of creation by the Creator. They drain womanhood of character, bringing to the fore the problem aptly captured by Peter Devries: "The difficulty with marriage is that we fal1 in love with a personality, but must live with a character". You can then imagine the trouble these fiends give the family institution and society.

Except there is repentance and a clear turning away from this and similar preoccupations these men remain in the group of the rich that can hardly make Heaven, and it does not matter whether they can sing all the psalms, hymns and choruses there are in Christendom. It does not matter the number of halleluyahs they say every minute.  It does not matter either, whether you are connected to preachers of national and world renown or Christian groups with international roots and tentacles. And it does not matter whether you decide to make a home in Jerusalem or the Vatican (and Mecca or Medina) from your many so-called pilgrimages. You may wish to donate all ill-gotten money to church groups, fellowship groups and all that, and be received by blind church leaders but God is far away; and because God cannot be mocked, nor bribed, it is important that everyman should find a chord to God through genuine repentance and faith in the Cross.

You cannot but be baffled the more that many outlandish women and girls obviously with questionable background and upbringing by loose, uncouth and failed parentage wanting in ethics and religious ethos are always right on hand to further curse their souls and those of their preys? Sometimes though, you do not even know who is preying on whom.

Today, licentiousness and ribaldry are on display on screens across the nation. Wonder why laws against obscenity mean nothing to the politicians? You may not even wonder why your sacerdotal President and his National Broadcasting Commission want miracles off the screen but will do nothing serious about obscene pictures watchers of the screen have to be invaded with. What with those foreign and home videos! What with those musical artists promos on screen; people not only dancing their souls into eternal doom but also want many with them in their passage to damnation! What you see on screen is too bad that representing it in its proper language will be too indecent on the part of this writer. And yet we have a President. How could Mr. President with all his superlative Christian claims that 'dim' whatever Yakubu Pam and his likes think they may have know nothing about the danger we are talking about here? (Recall that he has since "footed" Pam and his association). How can OBJ allow the young generation and posterity to be made so godless? All that is parenthetical anyway.

Our politicians and their female whatever may hear the words of wisdom. And there can never be a better counsel(lor) outside the Holy Writ than Joseph Peterman's immortal words: "Sex is a thing which uncontrolled may scorch (now and hereafter); properly guided, it will light the torch of eternity" - words in parenthesis are mine. What with Christian Nestell Bovee's: "The body of a sensualist is the coffin of a dead soul". And old Seneca: "If sensuality were happiness, beasts were happier than men; but human felicity lodged in the soul, not in the flesh". May God help Nigeria and purge the polity in Jesus name. Amen! Then, of course,                all other segments of society will fall both in line and place.
