today: AD accuses govt of hindering Akande in Ige trial From Iyabo Sotunde, Ibadan
THE Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo State yesterday accused the Federal Government of frustrating the lead prosecution counsel, Chief Debo Akande (SAN) in the trial of persons charged with the murder of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
In a statement by Alhaji Mashud Agoro, publicity secretary of the Ibadan City caucus of the AD, he regretted that the judiciary appeared helpless in the situation.
The party said: "It is disheartening to note that it was the government that frustrated their own lawyers in the pursuit of the Ige murder case through the process of withdrawal when Akande was not present in court, what a way to dispense justice
."
Agoro stated that it was not a surprise that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government could not unravel the mystery behind Ige's killers after the gruesome murder of their own, particularly Chief Aminosari Dikibo and the attempt on the life of Governor Akume of Benue State.
He noted that with the situation of things the common people could not hope to obtain justice under the PDP-led government.
While expressing concern for the safety of ordinary people in the country, Agoro pointed out that if a serving minister could be killed without the murderers being brought to book, body was safe in the country.
