They came into existence as a result of the selfishness of our so-called leaders. Their main activities may be extortion as written by Eniola Ilesanmi in (The Guardian Monday, July 26, 2004). In addition, they also commit various heinous crimes like rape, sexual harassment, stealing, gangsterism, etc. Their counterparts in the North known as almajiris are notorious for killing of innocent people during riots or religious conflicts, while in the East, they are not in any way different from that of the West and North. They do not even fear the police. In Europe or America, we board public buses and stand at the bus stops, everyday and feel very secured. Can a foreigner do the same in this country We talk about foreign investment and tourism. Is this the way to go about it with these urchins in the society The Area boys are now a threat to national security, and if nothing is done, I wonder what Lagos and other states would look like in the next few years.
