Shell Appoints New Deputy MD in Major Shake-up
By Mike Oiduniyi
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SDPC) yesterday effected a major re-organisation, with the announcement of a new deputy managing director, Mark Corner.
Corner, whose appointment takes effect from September 1, this year, is succeeding Mr. Joshua Udofia, who is proceeding to London as Senior Advisor - Nigeria.
The re-organisation, which came barely one week after the appointment of the first Nigerian Managing Director for the oil giant, had Dr. Kisito Okpere, currently the production director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO), deployed as SPDC Technical Director.
SNEPCO is a Shell subsidiary managing the company's deep water operations in Nigeria.
In a press statement issued yesterday and signed by SPDC's
Corporate External Relations Manager, Mr. Don Boham, the exercise also saw SPDC's Services Director, Mr. Chima Ibeneche, replacing Okpere as SNEPCO production director, while the General Manager Production, East, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, will oversee the newly created position of Corporate Affairs Director.
"These appointments take effect January 1, 2005," Shell said. Reverend Precious Omuku meanwhile, retained his position as SPDC External Affairs Director.
SPDC managing director-designate, Mr. Basil Omiyi, had disclosed last week that the re-organisation plan in the company, would kick off this week with the announcement of the changes in the top leadership. Implementation of the total plan involving other categories of staff will, however, begin next Janurary, Omiyi said.
Shell made history last week when it appointed Omiyi as the first Nigerian managing director after more than four decades of operating in Nigeria. The Anglo/Dutch oil firm, Nigeria's biggest crude oil producer, also transferred its African Headquarters of Shell from The Hague, in The Netherlands to Nigeria.
The current Managing Director of SPDC, Mr. Chris Finlayson, has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Shell Exploration and Production (Shell EP) in Africa, with effect from October 1, this year.
