Masari Reassures on Niger Delta Crisis From Ahamefula Ogbu in Abuja Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari has said the House, especially the Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) should be held accountable if the lingering problems of the Niger Delta are not addressed within his tenure. Masari made the remark yesterday in Abuja when the Committee headed by Hon Olaka Nwogu presented the NDDC budget to him. He charged all stakeholders to ensure prompt payments of their contributions to enable the commission achieve its set goals. He observed that there would always be insinuations of corruption anywhere, but tasked the Committee to perform its oversight functions well so that developmental projects in the budget would be executed. The Speaker charged the committee to ensure that those who squander the resources of the Commission were apprehended and brought to book while expenditures have to strictly comply with laid down approvals. Nwogu said the committee presented a revenue projection of N46.61 billion for 2004 with a recurrent estimate of N1,475,602,000.00 and a non-capital expenditure of N584 million, as well as projects and programmes estimate of N43.449 billion. He said the emphasis was on reducing the cost of non-project items, especially overheads. He observed that there were numerous agencies monitoring the performance of the Commission, which makes it impossible for misapplication of resources.
