Thugs Attack Council, Manhandle Chairman By Shaka Momodu About 100 people suspected to be members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs yesterday disrupted activities at the City Hall office of the Lagos Island West Local Government area while the Chairman, Mrs Derin Disu, was physically assaulted. The premises littered with broken bottles, had six officials of the council injured in the attack and have reportedly been taken to the General Hospital, Lagos for immediate medical attention. Reliving her experience, the chairman, said she was holding a meeting with supervisory councilors of the council over its internally generated revenue and the clamp down on the motor parks and markets by the Federal Ministry of Works when she was attacked. According to her, a former aspirant of the PDP and now Special Assistant to the Minister of Works, Mr. Saheed Salawe, burst into her office warning her that in his capacity as an agent of Federal Government, the council and herself must stay away from "everything and anything" on which Federal Government has laid claims. She added that "he declared that he did not recognise me as the council chairman and will not under any circumstances do." She said people who followed him descended on her but were prevented from doing much damage by the councillors who immediately came to her aid. According to her, there were also over 100 others wearing FERMA jackets who waited on the road of the City Hall to ensure that maximum damage was inflicted on the council but were dislodged by the prompt intervention of the men of the Nigerian Police.
