ETF Commissions Studies on Almajirai, Others Fct From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Education Tax Fund (ETF), has commissioned studies on ways to rehabilitate the Almajirai in the North, "Area boys" in the South-west, Boy-Child education in the South-east and the Girl-Child education needs throughout the country. Chairman, Board of Trustees, ETF, Chief Mrs Toyin Olakunri disclosed this at the opening ceremony of a two day national workshop co-hosted by ETF and Arewa House, Ahmadu Bello University, on Quranic/Tsan-gaya System of Education for self improvement and national development in Abuja. The ETF Board Chairman said preliminary research shows that reason of persons becoming street children included among others, dysfunctional family background, which could lead to illiteracy, lack of employable skills, and frustration, due to inability to achieve goals. She explained that the ETF board turned attention to education related challenges posed by the Almajirai, hinting that plans were already underway for a national workshop to help improve and facilitate the absorption of reading and education among the "area boys". Olakunrin said the board's target was aimed at intervening in critical areas of the Nigerian education system, which will transform and ensure quality education delivery in the country, in fulfillment of its mandate, adding that since1999, the board has intervened in all developmental areas of education by disbursing funds to all spheres of education. "When this board was inaugurated in September 1999, we set up targets to maximise services provided in all critical sectors of education. We found out that these sectors had been abandoned for many years. We, therefore, aimed at intervening in those areas of the education system, which will transform and ensure quality education delivery, in fulfilment of our mandate.
