As the race for the 2007 presidential election gathers steam, former President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (rtd) has been described as the only credible candidate, who can pilot the affairs of the country to greater heights.
Speaking at the flag off campaign for Babangida's cadidature come 2007 in Ojo, the Local Government Co-odinator of 'Vision 2007', Chief Babtunde Ogunlana, said the return of Babangida to the political scene would go a long way in reshaping the country.
"Before he stepped aside, our economy was very good, compared with the present situation in Nigeria. Then our petroleum was sold at the rate of N9.00 per liter, while the exchange rate was N22.00 to a Dollar. He is coming back is to revamp our economy which has cripple most of our businesses.
"Also to ensure full repairs of our refineries, which a lot of money had been spent for and nothing is being done and ensure that the poor masses benefit from his government," Ogunlana stated.
While appealing for support from Nigerians, Ogunlana, assured that Babangida's stepping aside ... was informed by his belief to contribute to the nation's development, a situation which meant that his coming back is to facilitate the development of the country.
"To buttress my point, our former President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, who had stepped aside over 11 years ago, is coming back to correct all the abnormalities in government. I am appealing to well meaning Nigerians to rally round our amiable president for his second coming and forget about the past.
"America that we are emulating today, had its independence over two hundred years ago. They also had so many problems ever before they became leader of the world," he said.
He also appealed to Nigerians to assist President Olusegun Obasanjo in his drive towards making Nigeria a better place for all "so that we can have another democratically elected President come 2007."
