PDP meets over crises in Abia, Oyo
• Dikibo’s successor top agenda
MATTHEW OGWUCHE,
Bureau Chief, Abuja
NATIONAL Working
Committee (NWC) of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was meeting in
Abuja last night over three reports on intra-party crisis even as the party
chieftains paid glowing tributes to the National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh at
57.
As at Press time, the NWC was meeting and
deliberating on reports of the party’s fact-finding mission led by Chief Ogbeh,
mandated to look into the face-off between Gov. Rasheed Ladoja of Oyo State and
his estraged political mentor, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
The other reports are on the impeachment
move against the Abia State Deputy Governor, Dr. Chima Nwafor and the sustained
opposition by four out of the five South-South governors to the appointment of
Chief Godspower Ake as the new National Vice-Chairman (South-South).
At a brief birthday celebration at the
conference hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, which
preceded the NWC meeting, several of the party’s big wigs poured encomiums on
Ogbeh for his leadership qualities and style.
National Vice-Chairman (South-West), Chief
Bode George, who set the ball rolling, credited Ogbeh’s tenure with what he
described as the party’s greatest success.
The success, which he said called for
celebration, is reflected in the party’s control of 28 states and a clear
majority in the National Assembly as well as control of the federal executive.
On his party, Deputy National Chairman
(South), Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, hailed Ogbeh for "selflessly using his position
to enhance everyone and pulling the country and the party together."
Responding, Ogbeh declared that in
retrospection, the party can give itself a pat on the back for what he claimed
as its ability despite the accompanying hiccups, to successfully manage itself
and the country which he noted had similarities in terms of complexities and
size.
He further claimed that despite the
criticism buffeting them, they needed to celebrate over the "fine achievements"
which he credited to the "great team work" by the NWC.
