Udenwa launches Imo online centre
From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri

AN online centre which will showcase the business potentials of Imo State was on Wednesday commissioned at the Alvan Ikoku College of Education (AICE) in Owerri.

The N300 million project which will also be used for pilot training was assisted by the World Bank.

At the commissioning of the centre, Governor Achike Udenwa, represented by his deputy, Chief Ebere Udeagu, said the centre would place the state in the super information technology.

Udenwa commended the efforts of the World Bank, the representative of the Imo Trade Centre in the United States, Chief Iyke Ibe and other top government functionaries for translating the dream into reality.

Ibe said people from Imo and beyond would benefit from the centre in terms of acquainting themselves with the state's economic potentials. He commended Udenwa for his interest in moving Imo State forward through investments.

The World Bank analyst in the U.S, Mr. Godwin Nwaogwugwu said the Imo online is based on three mechanisms in the e-portal www.Imooline.org, which according to him has already been registered in the U.S. Others, he said, involved women empowerment IT centre and a pilot centre to produce the manpower for local contents.

He said opportunity would be given to first student of AICE who successfully completes the graphic design at the centre.

The provost of the college, Professor Cletus Uwazurike in his remarks commended the stakeholders for locating the centre at the institution, promising that it would be maintained and secured.
