AKURE— IN a bid to revolutionize the agricultural sector of the economy, the Ondo state government has secured a N400m credit line through the Agricultural Development Trust Fund.
The State Attorney-General and Justice Commissioner, Mr Isaac Kekemeke told newsmen in Akure that the credit line was secured through the CBN, Omega Bank and the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation.
Kekemeke said that the state executive council members at their weekly meeting has also approved N64m to upgrade 19 skill acquisition centres in all the council areas of the state and the Lepers Settlement Ago-Ireti in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking on how the credit line would be realizable, the commissioner said that the state government would deposit N100m in the trust fund to enable it draw the N400m for the development of the Agricultural sector of the economy.
Kekemeke added that the Community Development Committee in all the 18 council areas of the state would disburse the fund together with the micro-credit loan scheme.
“The micro-credit structure will be used in the disbursement of the Agricultural loan, that is the Community Development Committee will have two windows for the disbursement- one for the micro credit loan and the other for the Agricultural loan.
Expatiating on the upgrading of the skill acquisition centres in the council areas, the commissioner said that eight subjects would be taught in the centres.
These subjects include, food processing, chalk making, fish farming, fashion designing, catering, woodwork and metal fabrication.
He said that all the equipment to teach the subject are to be purchased by the state government.
With these gestures, Kekemeke noted that unemployment youths roaming the streets would have been occupied.
The commissioner said that the council has approved N45m for the second and third quarter capital allocation for Ministry of Education to complete the Rotary building at the school for the physically Handicapped at Ikare Akoko.
