ADO-EKITI— THE national scribe of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Dele Adesina has shed light on the controversy surrounding the original owner of the N385 million property acquired by the Ekiti State Government at Oju Olobun Close, Victoria Island, Lagos even as the current government in the state has written to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission to help it determine the original ownership of the property.
Adesina, who appeared before the Justice David Babalola-led Judicial panel of inquiry in Ado-Ekiti yesterday disclosed that his legal firm facilitated the acquisition of the property by the State government from the A-Group of Companies.
He gave the names of the Directors of the Companies as Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Aliyu, Mr. Solomon Aliyu and Mr. Giwa Aliyu, adding that he confirmed the true identities of the directors at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Abuja.
He stated that the A-Group of Companies had acquired the property from its initial owner, the International Merchant Bank, which according to him owned the house’s original Certificate of Occupancy “(C of O).
Mr. Adesina further explained that his legal firm collected the sum of N41,650 million to perfect all the necessary documents that enabled the state government maintain a true and legal ownership of the property.
The legal practitioner further clarified that in Lagos an average of 47 per cent of the total cost of any property acquired would go into processing the necessary documents such as the title deeds, C of O and the public relations aspect etc.
Answering the panel’s question, Adesina who is from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Council agreed that the building’s C of O initially got lost.
“But I took a special interest in getting the new C of O being an indigene of Ekiti State", he further said, adding, “I have now acquired it for the state".
