ILORIN— THE authorities of University of Ilorin have expelled 11 students over cases of cultism and examination malpractices, just as the Kwara State Police Command denied that it indicted the judiciary and the authorities of University of Ilorin over the rising cases of cultism across tertiary institutions in the state.
The fresh expulsion of UNILORIN students came barely two weeks after two students of the institution were paraded alongside 19 terror-gang students by the police command, over series of activities of cultism in the state in the recent time.
The Deputy Director of Information, DDI University of Ilorin, Alh. Isiaka Aliagan, in a press statement made available to Vanguard stated that the newly affected students were among those terrorizing students on the campuses and robbing people, adding that they have been handed over to the police.
The DDI enjoined all members of the university community to be on alert and report students with similar behaviours to the security unit of the university .
The affected students according to the release included two female and 9 (nine) male namely Bolakale Usman Olenrewaju, Eniola Oladapo Oluwole (both Females) and Adeniyi Kayode, Ogona Gospel Seleyire, and Kamal Ahmed, others are Isa Yakub, Iyoha Obelu Brian, Maleeka Atanda Kezeem, Folorunsho Kazeem, Adesuyi Akinwale Collins and Adeyemi Afeez.
Meanwhile the Police Commissioner, Alh Mohammed Dikko Abubakar in a statement signed on his behalf by his Deputy, E.S. Olusegun (DCP) and made available to Vanguard, said he never indicted the judiciary or any tertiary institution on cultism as reported by one of the national dailies (not Vanguard).
According to the statement “the command wishes to clarify that it never and will never indict the University of Ilorin or the judiciary on cultism at any press conference.
“The command continued to appreciate the efforts of the university authorities to fight cultism and other related crimes, noting that the command did not mention any higher institutions as reported since it is a general syndrome throughout the federation.”
“It should be noted that about 46 pressmen attended the briefing and only the “This Day” of Tuesday 6th July 2004 misquoted the commissioner of police. Therefore the command thereby debunk such implicative and unwarranted allegation and hereby attached copy of the press briefing which speaks for itself please” added, the police commissioner.
