Fund allocation: No one can dictate to us � Ondo Govt JAMES SOWOLE, Akure
ONDO State Government yesterday, declared that nobody can dictate to it on how fund should be allocated to various sectors in the state. The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, stated this in Akure while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting. Kekemeke spoke against the backdrop of alleged pulling out of labour representative from the state�s fund allocation committee set up by Governor Olusegun Agagu. The commissioner said the setting up of the committee whose terms included deliberation on allocation of fund, was set up in demonstration of the administration�s transparency and accountability. He said the membership of the committee was a privilege and not a right, adding that the withdrawal of any member would not bother government. Membership of the committee includes traditional rulers some commissioners and representative of labour. Kekemeke disclosed that the executive council had approved N45 million for the Ministry of Education as grant for capital projects for second and third quarter. According to the commissioner, part of the money would be spent to buy home economic equipment for all 108 secondary schools in the state. He stated that the council has also approved N63.8 million for the upgrading of 19 skills acquisition centres spread across 18 local government areas of the state. The commissioner stated that the centres were part of the effort at implementing poverty allocation programme of the government adding that the scheme would reduce unemployment in the society. Kekemeke said eight vocation would be taught in these skill acquisition centres which include fashion design, furniture making, and others. |
