South-East governors meet at Awka today CHUKWUJEKWU ILOZUE, Awka
GOVERNORS of the five Eastern states will converge in Awka, Anambra State, today to deliberate on issues of mutual interest, Senior Special Assistant to Anambra State Governor, Fred Chukwuelobe, said in Awka yesterday. Chukwuelobe, who briefed the media on behalf of Governor Chris Ngige, said the meeting would be the first of its kind since the Eastern Governors� Forum was formed, adding that all the governors had indicated interest to attend. The Eastern Governors� Forum was initiated shortly after the present dispensation was inaugurated when other geographical zones instituted theirs to forge ahead with their zonal agenda. The Senior Special Assistant, who said the meeting would commence at 6 p.m. pointed out that the governors would brief the media at 9 o�clock in the night, after the meeting. The governors expected to attend the meeting include host, Ngige, Chief Uzor Kalu of Abia State and Dr. Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State. Others are Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State and Chief Achike Udenwa of Imo. The South Eastern Governors Forum ha run into trouble in recent times as some of the governors have regularly absented themselves from the meeting. Egwu, who hosted the last meeting, lamented recently that the forum is on the verge of collapse, citing declining interest of members. Today�s meeting, therefore, will once more put the governors to test. |
