MASSOB resurfaces in Anambra, defies Ngige

Members of the Movement for the
Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have resumed operations
in Anambra State despite repeated warnings from the state
Governor, Dr Chris Ngige.
Ngige had in a statement last month
warned that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of breaching
the peace in the state.
The governor had also directed the
law enforcement agents in the state to ensure that members of MASSOB in the
area are arrested.
Despite this, the Biafran flag that
had earlier been confiscated by the police fluttered in the air in Onitsha while MASSOB members in military
fatigue were seen around Nkpor junction and Onitsha main market.
At Ekwulobia town in Aguata Local
Government Area, most commuter buses bore Biafran stickers on their windscreens
while vendors in Awka, Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Nnewi now make money from selling
MASSOB calendars, newspapers and handbills.
MASSOB members in Onitsha seen wearing military uniforms
declined to speak on the development when contacted.
"I am not answering any
question. I am sorry to tell you this. One day, all questions will be answered
as much as we want to express ourselves. The day is coming when no one can stop
us. I know you are a Biafran but you go about writing all sorts of things about
your people," one of them ventured.
It was gathered that the MASSOB
campaign is gaining ground as more members of the public are daily getting
enlisted into the movement.
The Police Public Relations Officer,
Mr Kolapo Shofoluwe, and the Onitsha Police Area Commander were not available
for comment.
