Down on MASSOB, Arrest 38

No fewer than 38 suspected
members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra
(MASSOB) were yesterday arrested by the police for constituting security threat
to the peace of the nation.
Arms and ammunition, military and other security agencies equipment were also
recovered from the suspects. Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), MR. Chris
Olakpe, revealed made this issued said the suspects were arrested in Ebonyi and
Anambra States while plotting to go out on an operation.
Olapke, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said further that the arrest
was sequel an information about the unlawful assembly
of some groups in Anieke and Ezamgbo communities, in Ebonyi State.
Following the report, according to the FPRPO, a detachment of Anti Riot
Policemen were drafted to the scene at the instance of
the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tafa Balogun.
"Several arms and ammunition, five pairs of Army uniform, six Army/ Police
belts, five pairs of Army/ Mobile Police shoes, 13 Army caps, 14 machetes, some
quantities of Biafran flags, 190 stickers, 198 recorded cassettes, 1,950 duly
completed enlisted forms with passport photographs, some quantities of empty/
used enlistment, one bundle of Biafran almanac, copies of speech stating their
reasons for wanting state of Biafra, a laminated map of Biafra showing the area
covered and about 25 provinces were recovered from the suspects hide out"
the statement added.
Other items recovered from the MASSOB members include a copy of Biafran
national Anthem, the sum of N.29,210, some quantities of food stuff,
photographs showing the MASSOB members during some of their activities, some
membership identity cards, three motor cycles, 14 MASSOB umbrellas one 20
inches Saba television and a radio cassette and three small radios.
