FG To Create 7m Jobs Before 2007 - Masari From Ahamefula Ogbu in Abuja Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari has said that the Federal Government plans to create 7 million jobs from the agricultural sector between now and 2007 as a way of cushioning the harsh economic situation and address rising unemployment in the country. He said the choice of agriculture stemmed from the fact that over 70 per cent of Nigerians are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood, as a result any success in that sector would rub off positively on Nigerians. Masari spoke at the interactive session in Sokoto, intended by the House to bring governance closer to the people. He lamented the position of Nigeria in the global poverty index, which shows that over 70 per cent of the nation's populace depends on less than a dollar a day. The forum, which was the maiden edition, was however shunned by the Governors of Kebbi and Zamfara, Alhaji Adamu Aliero and Sani Yerima, leaving only Governor Attahiru Bafarawa as the only one who attended from that zone. Bafarawa commended the move by the House, which he said would build trust, and enable the input of the electorate to form part of government policy. He said it was a good gesture to go back to those who gave politicians the ticket to represent them.
