Ibori: CJ, 3 Justices Urged to Respect Judicial Process Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Uwais, and three other justices of the Supreme Court, have been enjoined to allow judicial process to prevail in the ongoing suit filed against them by the Derivation Front (DF) concerning the N5billion bribe allegedly offered to them by Chief James Ibori, Delta State Governor. In a writ on behalf of Mr. Edikeme Akpovili (national coordinator), and two DF zonal officers, Mr. Rex Onobrakpeya, and Mr. Patrick Agum, the group, through their counsel Mr. Moses Odiri, had filed an application with suit No. ID/820/2004 on May 27 at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja Judicial Division, against Justices Uwais, Ejiwunmi, Niki Tobi, and Alfa Belgore, concerning the allegation. Derivation Front, in earlier reports, had claimed the Supreme Court justices were bribed concerning a February 6, 2004 judgment, wherein a case involving a serving governor was referred back to a lower High Court, to enable court identify whether the governor was the same person arraigned before a Bwari Upper Area Court over a theft matter on September 28, 1995; thus rendering him ineligible to contest or continue as governor in his state. In an eight-paragraph statement issued yesterday in Lagos, Akpovili had appealed to Nigerians to prevail on the defendants to refrain from the use of armed policemen to intimidate its members and truncate the suit filed at the Ikeja High Court in respect of the bribery claim.
