Goje Urges Cement Firm to Halt Retrenchment Governor Danjuma Goje of Gombe State has urged the management of Ashaka Cement Plc to stop the proposed retrenchment of workers in the company. Goje who was on familiarization tour of Funakaye local government area, believed any retrenchment exercise now, would bring untold hardship to the families of the workers and the state. According to the governor, the company had the right to retrench workers to make profit, but must exercise restrain because of its social and political effect . Goje added "I heard it from the grave vine that you may likely embark on massive retrenchment exercise. That it will involve 30 to 40 percent of your workforce. If you do that, you have the right because it is your company. But I want you to take note of the social and the political effects of such exercise, so, I want to plead on behalf of the workers. If you retrench one staff person, it is going to affect the entire family. One may have two, three wives."
