Court Throws Out 14-yr Old Chieftaincy Dispute From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos A Jos High Court has thrown out a 14-year old chieftaincy tussle suit between Senator Geroge Hoomkwap and Ambassador Yahaya Kwande. Delivering the judgment in Jos last week Tuesday, Justice Y. I. Dakwang ruled that the entire claims of the plaintiffs lacked merit hence the entire suit was dismissed. Senator Hoomkwap and four others had taken Kwande and nine others to court over the latter's selection as a candidate for the Long-Kwo stool of Kwande in 1989. According to the plaintiffs, the first defendant was not qualified to have sought selection as Long-Kwo because he was not from Poema Ruling House of Kwande. They had sought reliefs for a declaration that only adult male descendants of the ruling houses of Poema, Nuku, Kasang and Lakwaram were entitled to contest for and ascend to the throne. They had also sought a perpetual injunction restraining Kwande and his offsprings from contesting for the stool now or in future and an injunction restraining the nineth and tenth defendants and their agents from recognizing the first defendant as the Long-Kwo or a candidate for the stool.
