NLC Officials Take over Errant Filling Station Lagos By Abimbola Akosile The ongoing strike action by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) assumed a new dimension yesterday when officials of the organisation descended on an errant filling station, chased away the petrol attendants caught selling fuel, and thereafter proceeded to dispense fuel free-of-charge to all vehicle on queue. The incident occurred around 1.00p.m at a major oil marketer's retailing outlet on Igbosere Street, Lagos Island, where the NLC officials were monitoring pricing boards and meters to ensure compliance with the directive on fuel prices. On sighting Labour officials, who arrived the station in a convoy of more than forty vehicles, THISDAY saw four attendants (three males, one female) abandoning their pumps and fleeing the station. The NLC officials thereafter took over the distribution of fuel at no cost to the vehicle on queue, rejected the money of those who had already bought fuel and asked them to go. They also warned traders who opened their retail outlets along the popular street to close shop as they would be back (today) to confirm, and anyone caught disobeying the order would have their wares given out freely . The convoy, which attempted to proceed to Ikoyi to confirm the prices at the Mega Filling Station (run by NNPC), was however, turned back by the police stationed at Keffi junction on Awolowo Road.
