Police,NLC Monitoring Team Clash Delta From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba The peaceful strike in Asaba, the Delta State capital took on a new twist yesterday, as the Nigeria Labour Congress monitring team clashed with the police at the premises of a second generation bank in the city. The NLC team, led by its state chairman, Mr. Mike Okeme, had arrived the premises of the bank, ostensibly to enforce compliance with the nationwide mass action which entered its second day yesterday. The arrival of the Labour activists, however, compelled the management of the bank which is on the main Nnebisi Road to call in the police. For several hours, the police squad engaged the NLC team in a racuous confrontation that nearly developed into physical combat. Reason, however, prevailed as there was no incident. Although the NLC monitring group left the premises, some hopeful customers were still waited to be atended to by the bank. Meanwhile, the prices of petroleum products have remained high in the city. THISDAY correspondent who went round the State capital, Asaba, gathered that the fuel marketers have not adjusted their pump prices as ordered by an Abuja High Court on Wednesday.
