Socio-Economic Activities Paralysed Bauchi From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Socio-economic life in the Bauchi State capital has been grounded as the nationwide strike action embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) entered its second day yesterday. Civil servants had however gone to work uncertain about the strike action following conflicting reports by local media that the strike has been suspended while the international media quoted Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as saying that the strike was "on course and a success across the country". Workers who reported for duty in the early hours of the day either left later or were forced out by NLC officials. In the business district of Bauchi town, commercial and business activities still flourished despite the nationwide strike, but Banks could not attend to their customers neither could NITEL and NEPA whose gates were securely locked. Our correspondent reports that except for the closure of government offices, movement of commuters in and out of the state capital continued unabated as members of the road transport workers union failed to support the strike.
