Commissioner Denies Threat to LG Boss Life
From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt
Rivers State Commis-sioner for Ecological Matters, Hon. Paworiso Samuel Horsefall has denied knowledge of any plan to eliminate the Chairman of Asari-Tori Local Government Council, Hon. Aroloyeteim Brown.
The commissioner in a statement issued in Port Harcourt dissociated himself as the leader of an alleged killer squad in the local government area.
The statement dated June 3, 2004 and signed by the Press Secretary of the commissioner, Mrs. Gloria Olayemi demanded an apology from the council boss.
The commissioner, who was reacting to a petition by the council chairman allerting the State Commissioner of Police about the purported plan to eliminate him (Brown) claimed there was no truth whatsoever in the allegations and challenged Brown to provide evidence to such plan.
Horsefall dismissed the alibi that the nomination of Brown as the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pained him (the commissioner ) so much that he had to organise for him to be killed and threatened to sue the council chairman if he could not substantiate the allegation.
According to the commis-sioner, although he supported another candidate during the party primaries three years ago, but when the PDP nominated Brown as its candidate for the election, he had no choice but to bow to the Party's decision
He explained further that "it was the same spirit of the supremacy of the party that made him work tirelessly along with other top party members in the area to ensure the victory of Hon. Brown at the March 30, 2004 rescheduled election in the area."
The commissioner wondered how the same Brown, who in several text messages acknowledged the support and assistance given him during election victory could now turn round to accuse him of plotting to kill him and recalled his vindication by the court in a similar incident on February 24, 2004.
Horsefall admonished the council chairman to stop pedpling fasle rumor and called on the council "chairman to render to him a public apology for linking his name with the criminal act as his credibility, integrity and image had been smeared by such frivolous allegations.
