2007: Group Wants Presidency Zoned to N/East The New Generation Forum of Nigeria, a socio-political organization has declared that after conceding the Presidency to the South-west for eight years, it should move to the North, particularly the North-east that has been politically marginalized in the past. National Co-ordinator of the Forum, Mr. Afemikhe Yakubu made the declaration in a press release issued in Bauchi. Yakubu noted that the "on-going representation on zoning formula for the presidency is not an issue that should take our valuable time", because according to him, "zoning is not constitutional, but can be mutually arrived at by consensus." According to him, "at the dawn of a new era in 1999, the Presidency was conceded to the South-west as a result of the unjust nullification of the June 12 presidential election believed to have been won by one of their sons, late Chief M. K. O. Abiola." He added that "it is therefore a matter of conscience that after eight years in the South-west, the Presidency should more to the North, particularly the North-east that has been politically marginalized in the past." While stating that come 2007, Nigeria needed "someone with great intellect, youthful age, vision, experience, ability and record of performance to steer the affairs of the nation," he therefore reiterated the earlier calls on Nigerians to join the forum in the crusade to draft Governor Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu to contest the 2007 presidential election. The group also condemned the wanton killings and destruction of property in Yelwa Shendam and other parts of Plateau State as well as the Kano State mayhem, just as he expressed the total support of the forum to the state of emergency declared in Plateau State.
