Members of the Ekiti State Executive Council have
commenced training on information technology (IT) in a bid to improve
efficiency of the state government.
Special Assistant on Information to the state
governor, Mr Kola Ajumobi, who announced this at a news conference in
Ado-Ekiti, said that all permanent secretaries and directors in the
state’s ministries and departments would also take part in the exercise.
The objective of the exercise, he explained, was to
ease administrative bottlenecks and bureaucracy in the civil service, stressing
that the problem of computer illiteracy in the state would be addressed
promptly by the government.
Ajumobi stated that all typewriters in the ministries
would be replaced with computers, while typists and stenographers would be
trained on the use of computers.
He also announced that the state government has
summoned the contractor handling the Ikere-Igbara Odo road project to appear
before the state executive Wednesday next week.
The special assistant said information reaching the
government indicated that the contractor, Kopex Nigeria Limited, has abandoned
the project and was gradually removing its equipment from the site.
Ajumobi also announced that the state government has
closed down the state’s Schools of Midwifery and Nursing for alleged
examination malpractices and financial irregularity.
He said that an administrative panel of enquiry would
be set up to look into the problems with a view to finding lasting solution.
The governor’s aide said that the government
has decided to work with the Federal Government on the supply of water to the
state, adding that four local governments in the state would be beneficiaries
each year within the next three years.
Any local government that failed to benefit from the
programme, he said, would be compensated by the state government.
