PDP Wants Direct Allocation Funding for Councils Directs chairmen to publish allocations from states From Chuks Okocha in Abuja Working to forestall deductions from local government funds, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advocated that they be directly funded by the Federation Allocation Accounts Committee (FAAC). Tha party also directed chairmen of local governments under its control to publish all the monthly allocations received from the State Joint Accounts. This was the highlight of the communiqu� of the seminar the party organized for local government chairmen elected on its platform. In the communiqu�, PDP said that it would "take necessary steps to call to order all those involved in arbitrary deductions from the Joint Accounts. Also, the State Joint Account Committees should be properly constituted to include Council Chairmen. Representatives of Local Government Chairmen shou-ld be present at the meeting of the FAAC." It also directed "council chairmen to publish on monthly basis the funds received from the state joint accounts" while appropriate measure should be taken to give an enhanced percentage of the Federation Account to the Local Government Council in view of the enormous responsibilities undertaken at the local government level. On the tenure of the elected council officials, the party canvassed for a uniform tenure for all local government administrators, while restating the need for all councils to be administered only by elected local government officials. The communiqu� called on the council chairmen to embrace the anti corruption crusade of the party and government.
