2007: Power Shift to North 'll End Ethnic Conflicts - Makarfi Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, has said power shift to the North in 2007 would bring an end to the spate of ethno-religious conflicts plaguing the area. Makarfi spoke yesterday when he received members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) led by its chairman, Chief Sunday Awoniyi, at the Government House, Kaduna. He asked the ACF to join the vanguard to ensure that the President comes from the North in 2007. Makarfi canvassed the breeding of a younger generation of politicians even as he urged the ACF to continue to promote harmonious co-existence among the diverse ethnic groups in the region. Promising that ACF would endeavour to uphold the legacies of the late Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Awoniyi said the group would require co-operation from the 19 Northern state governors. According to him, the ACF would not relent in its commitment at the restoration of trust, tolerance, accommodation, fairness and justice among the various sections of the North. Awoniyi described the ACF as non-political, non-religious organisation with the overall aim of promoting mutual understanding among the people.
