FAO Advises Africa Countries on Bio-energy From Andy Ekugo in Abuja Food and Agriculture Organi-sation (FAO) has called for the integration of bio-energy into the agricultural and forestry programmes of developing countries. The potentials of bio-energy to countries, according to Gustavo Best, FAO Energy Coordinator, would help in the creation of labour and income, poverty alleviation and food security, reduction of land degradation and help to mitigate climate change. This, Best noted, was in addition to its being environmentally friendly, cost effective and locally available. He suggested that, "countries need to move towards more sustainable energy systems based on energy sources such as bio-mass, solar and wind energies."
