Call Ogunlewe to Order, PFN Urges Obasanjo
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Lagos State, has appealed to President Olusegun Obasanjo to call Adeseye Ogunlewe, Minister of Works to order.
A release jointly signed by the President, Bishop (Dr) Lanre Obembe and Bishop Peter Okoduwa said the newspaper reports credited to the Minister concerning the deflooding of Dolphin Estate was frivolously wicked, illegal and totally unprofessional. "The Minister's claim that the only way to deflood Dolphin Estate is to pull down the approved places of worship for Muslims and Christians in Dolphin Estate and demolition of the Shopping Complex etc. was really outrageous," it said.
The Group said it was obvious that the Honourable Minister was on a power play and witch hunting exercise with Lagos State government, claiming that the minister ignored professional advise given to him and decided to victimize statutory allottees of Lagos State government land.
It said the flooding of Dolphin Estate was caused specifically by the sand filling of Osborne Road by the Federal Government. Despite the professional advice given to the Minister to cancel few plots blocking the effluence of storm water into the lagoon, the Minister chose to destroy approved places of worship in Dolphin Estate, where hundreds of millions Naira had been spent over the years.
These Churches with Statutory Certificate of Occupancy and Approved Building plans had been in existence in Dolphin Estate several years before sand filling of Osborne Road began. Officials of Lagos State Govern-ment and Residents of Dolphin Estate pointed these unwholesome blockages to the Federal Officials but they refused to listen.
Despite the directive of the President that Macgregor Canal should be opened, the Minister refused to act professionally. The Association therefore appealed to Mr President not to allow the Minister create an atmosphere that is likely to cause breach of peace in Lagos State.
