From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta
Efforts by the Ogun State Government to make water available at the Gateway Hotel, Ijebu Ode has been frustrated again as major components of the equipment meant to construct two bore holes worth N4.5 million have been stolen.
Sole Administrator of the Hotel, Mrs Folake Marcus Bello conducting Journalists round the site at Ijebu Ode over the weekend alleged Sabotage.
Bello disclosed that already one person has been arrested by the police in connection with the vandalisation of the engine, explaining that the equipment worth several thousands of naira belong to Hydro Marine Engineering owned by Mr Babatunde Ogunnaike.
According to her, in the wake of the vandalisation, work has stopped on the construction of the boreholes, which she said were originally meant to be completed within the weeks.
While further describing the incident as act of sabotage, the hotel's boss who also described the situation as frustrating, pointed out that it is now obvious that some people don't want the Hotel to function.
She explained the rationale behind the digging of the bore holes stated that it is not economically wise for the government to continue spending N1 million on the purchase of portable water from the public water tanker operators on monthly basis.
Bello expressed displeasure over the attitudes of those she described as saboteurs who have refused to follow the wind of change that is currently blowing across the state, maintained that she will not be daunted in the face of all odds.
She disclosed however that work will still go on because she has been assured by the handling the job that all efforts would be made to have the stolen equipment replaced for continuation of the job.
General Manager of the Hotel, Mr Akin Olopade explained that those who perpetrated the act were technicians who were familiar with the engine and knew what to remove to render the entire component useless.
Olopade said the arrested suspect was one of those who originally fixed the missing equipment, regretting that the commissioning of the bore holes expected to be carried out last week by the state Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel could not be possible again.
