Group Flays Child Labour
FCT
A religious non-governmental organisation, Professional Muslim Sisters Association (PMSA), has condemned the trafficking of female children other countries including Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the formal launch and public presentation of the organisation in Abuja yesterday, President of the organisation, Dr Mario Mandara, said the PMSA was out to fight the cause of Muslim women, youth and children especially in areas of education, health, and child rights.
According to Mandara, the organisation has been working silently among rural dwellers in the past three years with only four member trustees, but decided to come to the fore so as to collaborate with other bodies and individuals who share the aspiration of using their various professional callings to better the lives of others.
She said it was the recognition of the importance of girl-child education to the development of the society and the fact that there would never be women empowerment without education, that gave the founders the courage to push on stressing that most Muslim organisations have been static and slow in responding to the needs and problems facing this particular group.
Vice-PresidentAtiku Abubakar, guest speaker at the event, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Hajiya Bintu Ibrahim Musa, in his address praised the founders of the organisation for using their talents and resources to make the society a better place.
He urged them not to relent in their efforts to ensure that Muslim women, through education and counselling are made to contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, Secretary of PMSA, Hadiza Dangabana-Sani, said the objectives of the organisation comprise the propagation of awareness among professional Muslim women on their responsibilities to society, promotion of health rights through the establishment of health mobile clinics.
