Tinubu Again Calls for National Conference Lagos By Yemi Akinsuyi Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, has reiterated the need for Sovereign National Conference as the only mechanism for the country's continued peaceful co-existence. Tinubu said this when the new Archbishop of Lagos, Methodist Church Nigeria, The Most Revd. Dr. Sunday Makinde paid him a courtesy visit. While regretting the enormous deprivation by the Federal Government over the inadequate funding for the states and local governments, Tinubu enlisted the support of the Cleric in educating those at the centre, on the need for equitable distribution of resources. He urged religious leaders to help in educating members of the political class, especially those at the centre on the need to allow dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflict. He also urged the cleric to assist in the drive for tax payment, to enhance the continued growth of the church and the state in the development and provisions of socio-economic infrastructure. Tinubu frowned at what he described as 'lukewarm attitude' of some Nigerians, especially the wealthy and the privileged, who indulge in tax evasion. He promised the visiting Archbishop and his entourage to provide land and other amenities, especially in the area of war against HIV/AIDS and caring for the abandoned and motherless babies.
